Fall Conference
NMJHS Fall Conference: Adventures Along the Santa Fe Trail
The New Mexico Jewish Historical Society invites you to its twenty-third fall conference at the historic Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, New Mexico on October 22 – 24, 2010. The focus will be on the Jews of Las Vegas and Northeast New Mexico. It will be another one of those great annual conferences that NMJHS does so well.

This fall we invite you to hit the Santa Fe Trail heading to Las Vegas for a stimulating weekend of talks and tours and socializing. Several tours are offered before the conference begins: a walking tour of historical Jewish Las Vegas, a tour of Montezuma Castle (at the United World College), and a visit to Montefiore Cemetery, the oldest Jewish cemetery in New Mexico.
The conference will cover multiple themes, among them overviews of the history of Hispanic participation in the Santa Fe Trail trade and the history of Las Vegas; a slide presentation of the synagogues on the Santa Fe Trail; and a history of the Jews of Las Vegas and Mora. Three panel discussions will cover the crypto-Jews in Las Vegas and northeast New Mexico, the legacy of Las Vegas’s and northeast New Mexico’s rich Jewish past, and the renaissance of the Las Vegas Jewish community. Following dinner on Saturday night attendees will be treated to a concert of nineteenth century liturgical music that was performed at the old Congregation Montefiore.
Conference registration materials will be ready by mid-September. Nonmembers who would like to receive a packet may send an email to the NMJHS administrator at
