Over 100 people attended the NMJHS Annual Meeting on Sunday,
April 19, 1998 at Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe. Due to President
Claire Grossmanís laryngitis, Vice President Stanley Hordes
assisted with the officiating. An introduction of new officers
and board members was followed by a review of the year and a
preview of upcoming programs. This past year held successful
programs including the fall cemetery clean-up in Las Vegas;
the annual archives reception, the last held in the old State
Records and Archives building at Guadalupe and Montezuma; the
snowbound, but enjoyed by the hardy who made it up the hill,
annual conference in Los Alamos; and Judge Marvin Atlasí reflections
on his participation at the Nuremberg trials.
A greatly strengthened and broadened
board will, in the coming year, organize and oversee the Memorial
Day weekend trip to research genealogy at the Family History
Center in Salt Lake City; a lecture by Albuquerque architect
Max Flatow; a program presented by opera composer Myron Fink
during the opera season on August 9th; a most intriguing and
ambitious Annual Conference and Film Fiesta in Albuquerque November
6-8 at the KiMo Theater.
Board member, Steve Gitomer, genealogist,
and treasurer Sylvia LaPan, registering long-time member
Michael Gold during the annual meeting.

Film expert Joseph Dispenza
addressed the exciting specifics planned for this conference,
a Jewish Historical Film Fiesta. He announced that along with
a screening of ìGentlemanís Agreement,î the ground breaking
1948 film about anti-Semitism, the star of that movie, Celeste
Holm, who won an Oscar for her performance, will be present.
Other plans for a power-packed weekend are underway. La Posada
de Albuquerque will be the official conference hotel. Dispenza,
who has been hired by the NMJHS to coordinate the festival,
called for volunteers to assist with the work that is needed
on numerous committees, such as hospitality, grant writing,
logistics, and promotion. To sign up, please call the NMJHS
voice mail, 505-989-6656.
Board member and corresponding secretary
of the NMJHS A. David Scholder, reports on the results

accepted.
The meeting adjourned from the
